I should have something important to say in this the very first post of our new travel blog. The fact is, however, that after more than a year of being travel-less, our adventures back out into the big world have only stuttered to a start.
As soon as we got our first dose of vaccine, we started planning a trip. Not a trip TO anyplace, just a trip AWAY from a place. Right up until the day we left, we hardly had a more detailed agenda than that. Finding someone to watch the cats, making sure the major loose ends at the house had been tied up, and arranging to do our work from the road took up all our attention. We knew we would aim for Arizona, a destination with family-provided accommodations, and that we’d be responsible citizens of COVIDland, but the details are still filling themselves in.

Our first real night away finds us in Santa Fe, a brief stopover on the road to Uncle G’s house near Phoenix. Neither of us has ever been to New Mexico before. The drive was stunning, as evidenced by a series of photos I took out the window of the car using my cell phone, all of which (as expected) are rubbish.

Dustin will bust out his camera soon and there’ll be pretty things to see here, but for now you have to take my word that the mountains have been glorious, oft snow-capped, and sometimes volcanic.
We’re not in Santa Fe to spend time in Santa Fe, so I don’t have any adventures to recount. Our stay in the historic Inn of the Turquoise Bear has been lovely, and we had a nice meal at the Coyote Cantina. We bypassed the waiting list by agreeing to sit outside, which seemed like a fine idea when the sun was shining but got very cold indeed by the time we licked the last of the churro dust from our fingers.
Tomorrow, we’re off to Arizona. I suspect the stories will get more interesting once we settle in for some proper adventuring. The photos will definitely improve soon. Stay tuned!
